The Danger of MoralityThe man who remains bound by personal or social ideas of duty, necessary as they
are for the ignorant to tame their clamorous desires, will be indeed a "good" man, but he will never attain to the fulfilment of this
yoga [taught in the Gita]. He will only replace the desire for one
kind of fruit by the desire for another kind; he will strive, even more
passionately perhaps, for these higher results and be more bitterly grieved by
not attaining them.
There is no passion so terrible as the passion of the altruist, no egoism so
hard to shake as the fixed egoism of virtue, precisely because it is justified
in its own eyes and justified in the sight of men and cannot see the necessity
for yielding to a higher law. Even if there is no grieving over the results,
there will be the labour and strife of the rajasic kartA¢, struggling nd
fighting, getting eager and getting exhausted, not trigunA¢tI®ta, always under
bondage to the gunas.
It was under the domination of these ideas of personal virtue and social duty
that Arjuna refused to fight.
One of my cherished goals for putting up this website is to collect and make
available online some of those old (pre-1975) concerts by stalwarts which are so
precious and rare to obtain. They are all locked up in the private music
collections of a few individuals, who are not willing to share them with others
for fear of loss.
That's precisely where the Internet helps, isn't it, to house music in an
indestructible but widely shareable form?
Hence I request rasikas to come forward and share with me copies of those
rare concerts so I can put them online to give everybody an oppurtunity to share
the sangItAmR^itaM ! You'll be duly recognized on the website for your
contribution. And rest assured that it will not be used for profit.
For starters, I am looking for the following:
pre-1970 concerts by M. Balamurali Krishna
pre-1975 concerts by Vinjamuri Varadaraja Iyengar, M.D.Ramanathan, GNB,
Oleti, Dwaram Venkataswamy Naidu (violin), or their gurus.
You can send your collection to me in several ways:
You can upload music files to my
upload website in mp3 or
realaudio format, at your convenience.
(The site is password-protected; send me email to get the password).
You are also welcome to send me copies of your cassettes/CDs by postal
mail. Please email me and I'll give you my postal address in the U.S. or India.
I'll put them on my website for everybody's benefit soon after receiving them.
